ABOUT JOHN

    John C. Rodriguez was an artist, singer, musician, and a composer.   He also was a proud graduate of Teaneck High School
    and Ramapo College.  His warmth, gentle humor, prolific artistic talent and tireless goodness touched everyone he met.  As
    a resident of Howell N.J. he became a Trustee for Cabaret for Life based in Monmouth County.  John was always the first in
    line to paint sets, buy sound systems, do the heavy lifting or generally do whatever was necessary to make sure that the
    shows went on.  He did this quietly, with no need for accolades.  In fact, many members of the organization did not even
    know how talented and diverse an artist he himself was.

    John had a tremendous passion to pass along his love for the arts to the next generations.  A scholarship fund in his name
    was established shortly after his untimely death.  Family and friends are administrating the fund, in conjunction with
    Cabaret for Life.  Future fundraising events will be held to ensure that the Scholarship and John’s legacy live on for many
    years to come.

JOHN C. RODRIGUEZ SCHOLARSHIP
FOR ALL MONMOUTH COUNTY and TEANECK HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS:
SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS TO BE AWARDED FOR STUDENTS PURSUING
COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY TRAINING IN THE ARTS
High school seniors planning to pursue college or university training in the performing arts are eligible to
apply for scholarships named in memory of John C. Rodriguez, a Howell Township resident, who passed
away unexpectedly in April 2004. Scholarships will be awarded in the amounts ranging from $1000 - $2500.  
The number of scholarships awarded will vary each year depending on the applicants.

This scholarship is open to H.S. seniors presently enrolled in schools in Monmouth County and
Teaneck H.S.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

        Complete scholarship application form
        Submit one-page essay on how the scholarship will help student achieve his/her goals. (250-300
words)
        Submit three (3) letters of recommendation
        High school transcript
        Applicant agrees to enroll as a full-time student in an Undergraduate college or university by the
fall 2010..  Applicant must be pursuing a degree in Acting, Musical Theater, Voice, Dance or in the Fine
Arts.

APPLICATION TIMELINE

        Deadline for submission – April 15, 2010
        Auditions -Saturday, May 8th, Howell High School. Time TBA
Scholarships will be presented in late spring at a Cabaret for Life event

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

        Upon receipt of complete application package, applicant will be contacted with an audition time
and place.
        Performing Arts applicant must prepare two of the following (applicant may do two monologues,
songs or dances or a combination of any two):
•        Theater monologue (1-2 mins.)
•        Song (from musical theater, standard or contemporary)
•        Choreographed dance piece (classical, tap, modern, African, Hip-Hop, etc.)
o        Applicant must provide own accompanist or audition tape/CD
